We had the pleasure of training 30 committed and energetic young people from the student council in Ringsted, in close collaboration with UngRingsted – @Ringsted Kommunes ungdomsskole, which facilitates student democracy across the municipal schools.
The young people participated in a Democracy Fitness Camp and it was a day filled with energy, reflection and important conversations.
All 30 participants will now be part of UngRingsted’s new Democracy Corps. A Democracy Corps that schools and municipal initiatives can invite to facilitate democratic trainings in the future. This means that the young people themselves will pass on Democracy Fitness and help others exercise their democracy muscles!
The camp showed once again how Democracy Fitness can create a framework for conversations that can otherwise be difficult to start. Young people were given a safe space to share their concerns and practice facilitating Democracy Fitness for others.
It was a diverse group, which made the conversations even stronger. Many of the participants also experienced little “aha moments” where they realized their own democratic strengths and discovered new sides of themselves in the process.
And that’s exactly what Democracy Fitness can do:
Create spaces where young people get the courage and tools to actively participate in everyday democracy with their bodies, heads and hearts.
Thank you so much to UngRingsted and to all the cool kids who made the day so special. We look forward to following the Democracy Corps and seeing how they bring Democracy Fitness to Ringsted Municipality!
