Yesterday, a new group of 26 dedicated Danish participants completed a 1-day Democracy Fitness Trainer course at Byens Hus in Roskilde and they are now ready to step into the role of trainers and bring democracy practice into everyday life! Once again, the training took place in the historic and beautiful old city council chamber at Byens Hus – the perfect setting to get into the democracy mindset.
Throughout the day, we explored the core elements of Democracy Fitness:
- A shared language about democracy
- A method that connects body, reflection, and action
- Practical exercises to train four key democracy muscles
- Tools and facilitation techniques that make democracy accessible, concrete, and engaging
- An active, fun, and social method that strengthens people’s ability to engage in democracy
During the masterclass, we worked intensively with the following democracy muscles, Courage, Attitude, Disagreement and Active listening.

One of the newly trained Democracy Fitness trainers shared this reflection on the experience:“It was an inspiring and active day, full of learning, reflection, and hands-on practice. I’m really excited to put all this new knowledge into action in meaningful ways – so that hopefully more people feel encouraged to take part in democracy.”– Lea, from We Do Democracy
A big thank you to all the newly trained trainers! We’re so grateful for your energy, engagement and commitment!
The participants came from a wide range of backgrounds, but all shared a strong commitment to strengthening democratic confidence and participation in the contexts they work in. We’re excited to follow their work and see how Democracy Fitness continues to unfold in new and meaningful ways!
